On the “No Litter Day”, activate an eco-friendly attitude together with Kompania Piwowarska and Rekopol

May 11, 2020 marks the 14th “No Litter Day”, an initiative launched in 2007 by young people from dozen or so countries within the frame of the European Youth Eco-Parliament. The campaign of Rekopol Organizacja Odzysku Opakowań (Packaging Recycling Organization), the aim of which is to reduce the increasing amounts of waste, especially unsegregated and non-recycled, has been joined by Kompania Piwowarska. Together the companies convince that even simple behaviours suffice to make a real change and support the environment.

On the occasion of the “No Litter Day”, the leader of the beer market in Poland has prepared educational eco contests for children and adults working at the company – focused on reducing and segregating waste. Moreover, the company provides it employees with educational materials in electronic form, such as the 10 rules for eco-consumers. On top of that, Kompania Piwowarska uses its Facebook channel to encourage people to take part in the #włączsiędogry (#jointhegame) contest organized by Rekopol – Organizacja Odzysku Opakowań as well as its own educational contest.

By encouraging others to act pro-ecologically, Kompania Piwowarska shows that we can and should take care of the environment all year long with the use of both smaller and bigger activities. That’s exactly what the company does using every possible way.

Second life of returnable bottles. The beer market Kompania Piwowarska operates within is currently one of the only ones in Poland that uses returnable packaging on a large scale. It fits perfectly in the concept of reusing packaging and thus reduces the negative impact on the natural environment. Nearly half of Kompania Piwowarska’s beers are distributed in returnable packaging: returnable glass bottles (such a bottle can be refilled up to 20 times before it’s recycled) and kegs. With the environment in mind, a bottle collection point was opened next to the brewery in Poznań in 2019. From August 2019 until March 2020 (8 months), the point collected about 1 m bottles. If returnable bottles had been non-returnable, just in 2019, 965 m bottles would have been wasted, producing about 315 thousand tons of glass more.

Recycling and reusable cups. During mass events where Kompania Piwowarska is present, the company actively promotes selective collection of waste in the special Eco Zone. A good example of that is the Pol’and’Rock festival, as during the last edition in 2019 nearly 20 tons of waste were collected, including 1.5 ton of aluminium and 1.1 ton of plastic. Additionally, Kompania Piwowarska has also introduced reusable cups and cups made from 100% recycled plastic.

Waste. In 2019, Kompania Piwowarska recycled almost all of the by-products and waste generated in its breweries (over 99%).

The list of other eco activities the company implements to protect the environment on a daily basis includes gradual switch to e-invoicing and giving up plastic bottles with water in all company offices and replacing them with filtered tap water.

Kompania Piwowarska’s business strategy is based on sustainable development. The company takes care of not only its own development, but also the development of its business partners, local communities and the environment. Segregation and reduction of the amount of waste, recycling, maintaining the lowest water consumption during production of beer, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, reduction of energy consumption – these are only a few of many pro-ecological attitudes displayed by the leader of the beer industry in Poland.

The company’s sustainable development strategy is based on four pillars: planet, people, responsible choices and responsible business, and it contributes to the execution of the 13th out of the 17 goals set by the UN under “Agenda 2030”.
