LECH Nowy Staw III wind farm started producing electricity for Kompania Piwowarska’s breweries
As of 2021, 100% of electricity needs of the three breweries owned by Kompania Piwowarska is covered with wind energy delivered by RWE. The newly launched LECH Nowy Staw III wind farm, located about 50 km south-east of Gdansk, owned and operated by RWE, is comprised of three turbines, which together have a total installed capacity of 12 megawatts (MW) and meets 54% of Kompania Piwowarska’s demand for electricity necessary to brew beer in the Dojlidy Brewery, LECH Browary Wielkopolski and Tyskie Browary Książęce. The remaining 46% is supplied by the existing wind farms in Nowy Staw.
LECH is one of Kompania Piwowarska's leading brands, which has been implementing pro-environmental solutions across different areas of its activity and inspiring its consumers to eco-activities.
– Powering Kompania Piwowarska’s breweries with wind energy significantly reduces the negative impact of our activity on natural environment. As a result of the agreement with REW, we reduced CO2 emissions from our breweries by 66% compared to 2019. It constitutes a mile in terms of our execution of the environmental goals specified in the Better Future 2030 strategy, which includes becoming carbon neutral across our breweries by the end of this decade. Moreover, the cooperation with RWE confirms that we are successfully pursuing our company’s overarching purpose: Creating Meaningful Connections. Our business partnerships are based on similar goals and values, therefore they are beneficial not only for the business, but also for the planet and society – says Igor Tikhonov, CEO of Kompania Piwowarska.
Poland is one of RWE’s core renewable energy markets in Europe. The company has onshore wind farms in our country with a combined capacity of over 470 megawatts, currently executing the Żnin project (48 MW). Furthermore, RWE diversifies its portfolio of renewables in Poland by investing in photovoltaic farms and strengthens its activity by acquiring solar projects with the capacity of 3 GW in 2022.
– With this investment, we support Polish industry and Polish companies in their energy transformation towards green energy sources. The commissioning of the LECH Nowy Staw III wind farm testifies not only to a good cooperation between the two entities implementing this project, but also to the dynamic development of wind energy used across Polish industry. We are pleased to be part of that transition, providing Kompania Piwowarska with first-class, most efficient solutions – says Wojciech Borkowski, Project Manager at RWE Renewables Poland.
The installation completed at the beginning of this year was built under the PPA concluded in 2019 between Kompania Piwowarska and RWE Renewables. The first electricity from the new LECH Nowy Staw III wind turbines is to be supplied as of February 2023.
