Kompania Piwowarska recognized in the Ranking of Decarbonization Initiatives

Kompania Piwowarska was recognized in the second edition of the Ranking of Decarbonization Initiatives. The award-giving ceremony took place on April 25, during the second day of the European Economic Congress in Katowice.

Kompania Piwowarska earned a distinction for the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed in 2019 for renewable electricity. It was the first PPA in Poland that enabled financing – without the use of any state subsidies – the expansion of an existing wind park with 3 new turbines. As of 2021, the electricity demand of Kompania Piwowarska’s breweries (Tyskie Browary Książęce, Lech Browary Wielkopolski, Dojlidy Browar Białystok) is fully covered with wind energy.

    – We are honoured to receive this distinction and take a place among companies which have been actively participating in the green transformation of the Polish economy. Executing the provisions of this agreement, i.e. achieving carbon neutrality across our breweries by 2030, is one of the sustainability goals, whcih we have set for ourselves within the framework of the Better Future 2030 strategy. We undertake numerous activities related to the climate policy and the European Green Deal, and powering our breweries with wind energy is one of them. For comparison: in 2019, in terms of Scope 2 emissions – purchased electricity – the company generated 70,389 tons of CO₂. Having switched to wind electricity in 2021, the emissions within that scope amount to zero tons – comments Iwona Jacaszek-Pruś, Corporate Affairs Director at Kompania Piwowarska.

The Ranking of Decarbonization Initiatives is an overview of the most creative and environmentally efficient initiatives aimed at the reduction of CO₂ emissions and negative impact on the climate and the environment. It is a part of a wider campaign called “Green Index” addressed to organizations and companies actively participating in the green transformation of the Polish economy. The award gala took place during the European Economic Congress in Katowice. The selection of the Ranking leaders was entrusted to the “Green Index” Campaign Committee, composed of the representatives of institutions and organizations involved in environmental politics and authority figures in that field.

The ranking encompasses initiatives completed between 2020 and 2021.
