Over 41,000 pallet spaces, a height of 40 meters, 12 stacker cranes, and 18 loading docks – these are the key figures behind Kompania Piwowarska’s new automated high-bay warehouse in Poznań. Representing a PLN 230 million investment at the LECH Browary Wielkopolski site, it stands as the largest supply chain project in the company’s history. It has increased the Poznań brewery’s total warehousing capacity by around two and a half times – from 23,000 to approximately 58,000 pallets. This new facility will enable a greater share of deliveries to be made directly from the brewery to customers’ central warehouses, streamline logistics operations, and reduce transport-related emissions.
The new warehouse serves as a cornerstone of Kompania Piwowarska’s supply chain transformation. Increased storage capacity allows the company’s largest brewery to maintain appropriate product inventory levels on-site and ship higher volumes directly to clients, without relying on satellite and buffer warehouses.
Prior to this investment, roughly half of all deliveries went directly from the brewery to customers’ warehouses. The target is now set at approximately 90%. This translates to a shorter journey from brewery to customer, fewer intermediary logistics steps, and greater efficiency across the entire distribution network.
– This is far more than just a new warehouse. This investment project reshapes how our supply chain operates and reinforces Kompania Piwowarska’s competitiveness. We can keep larger product stocks directly at the brewery, increase the share of deliveries made straight to customers, while continuing to automate processes and reduce transport. It is an investment in the efficiency of our business, both today and in the years ahead – says Dorota Peter, Supply Chain Director at Kompania Piwowarska.
At the heart of the project is a 40-metre-high facility housing over 41,000 pallet spaces. 12 automated stacker cranes handle the placement and retrieval of goods. Connecting the new warehouse to existing storage area is a Monorail system capable of moving up to 552 pallets per hour. Altogether, the setup forms an intricate ecosystem of nearly 1,000 interconnected devices operating within an automated logistics process.
– Given the scale of operations at the Poznań brewery, efficiently managing a high-volume product flow is crucial. The new warehouse has been integrated with the brewery’s existing infrastructure, allowing us to automate a significant part of the entire process – from production line to preparation for dispatch. This translates into greater efficiency, more predictable processes and improved workplace safety – says Bartosz Bukowiecki, Senior Strategic Logistics Project Manager at Kompania Piwowarska.
Besides reimagining storage methods, the new warehouse transforms the underlying distribution model. The ability to keep larger product stocks directly at the brewery makes it possible to increase the share of deliveries made straight to customers’ central warehouses. In practice, this means fewer transit legs across the logistics network and a streamlined journey from the production line to the customer.
The environmental impact of this change is measurable. By cutting unnecessary transport cycles, the project is projected to reduce transport-related CO₂ emissions by over 2,300 tonnes annually – equivalent to a 5% reduction in emissions resulting from the transport of the company’s products. The investment therefore aligns with Kompania Piwowarska’s broader approach to supply chain optimisation, in which automation, efficient use of infrastructure and the elimination of unnecessary transport are intended both to strengthen the company’s competitiveness and reduce the carbon footprint of its operations.
Conceptual work on the project began in 2023. Following the preparatory stage and selection of the technology, construction work and the installation of automation systems commenced. Performance testing was carried out in the first months of 2026, with the warehouse undergoing its first commissioning run in June. The operating system is currently undergoing calibration and fine-tuning, with the warehouse expected to reach full target capacity by March 2027.
The automated warehouse in Poznań is the second facility of its kind within Asahi Europe & International, of which Kompania Piwowarska is part. The first was launched in 2023 at the Plzeňský Prazdroj brewery in Pilsen.
The general contractor for the investment was PORR S.A., the technology was supplied by System Logistics GmbH, and the project was managed by APP-Projekt S.A.
