Tyskie Releases the Intergenerational Slang Dictionary – Bridging the Language Gap Between Generations
16.10.2025
All materials are intended for adults over the age of 18 only and should not be passed on or made available to persons under the age of 18.

Tyskie’s new project is more than just a collection of words. It is a story about language that evolves with every decade, yet always remains a carrier of emotion, community and identity. The dictionary includes expressions characteristic for different eras – from “absztyfikant” and “dyrdymały”, through “lol” and “ziomal”, all the way to “delulu” and “sigma”. Each entry comes with a light-hearted definition, an example of use, and a bit of cultural context to paint a picture of the time it came from. Here, modern internet slang meets old-school street talk, forming a unique linguistic story of Polish people.
“We’ve noticed that language differences often lead to misunderstandings, but they also hold huge potential for laughter, reflection and dialogue. And since conversation has always been at the heart of Tyskie, we created a dictionary that doesn’t just explain words – it brings people closer together” – says Wojciech Szerszeń, Tyskie Brand Manager.
Rather than preaching or teaching “how to speak correctly”, the dictionary encourages readers to take a moment and ask, “What do you mean by that?” It points out that slang is not just for the young – every generation has had its own words, jokes and expressions. And while not every word stands the test of time, talking about them – with a wink and an open mind – is still very powerful.
The Intergenerational Slang Dictionary is available both as a printed edition and in an open online version. The print edition will make its way to libraries in 39 cities across Poland as part of a nationwide promotional campaign. Both formats are brought to life with dedicated illustrations created by Polish artists.
What makes the project truly special is the involvement of the public. Tyskie invited people of all ages to co-create the dictionary by sharing their favourite phrases, stories and meanings.
The concept and execution were developed by the Tyskie brand team in collaboration with Grupa Przestrzeń. Illustrations were created by Przemysław Sokołowski, Paweł Szlotawa, Aleksandra Szmida and Bartosz Żuber. Linguistic consultation was provided by Malwina Łozińska, while design and graphic layout were delivered by Grupa Przestrzeń.
