Triple podium for Kompania Piwowarska’s beers! Lech Pils, Książęce IPA and Ciemne Łagodne awarded at the Good Beer competition

18.10.2018

Kompania Piwowarska’s beers have just returned from the prestigious Good Beer competition with three medals. Książęce Ciemne Łagodne received a silver medal in the dark lager category, while Książęce IPA (American pale ale) and Lech Pils (light lager) both won bronze medals. Over all the editions of the competition, beers produced by Kompania Piwowarska have been awarded 15 times in total.

Good Beer is the most important professional beer competition in Poland. This year’s edition was unique, as the jury was composed not only of acknowledged experts and beer connoisseurs from Poland, but also international judges from the US, Belgium, Sweden and other countries. The 12-person jury knew everything there was to know about beer, therefore they were evaluating the appearance, taste, aroma, bitterness and general impressions. Out of nearly 150 submitted beers, medals were awarded to 30 of them, including three beers brewed by the breweries owned by Kompania Piwowarska.

The list of beers with the highest notes from the judges included Książęce Ciemne Łagodne, which received a silver medal in the dark lager category. It is the fourth medal in a row for this variant of Książęce at Good Beer and second this year – after a bronze medal awarded at the consumer beer competition within the 48th edition of Chmielaki Krasnostawskie.

Another beer from the Książęce family that came up trumps was Książęce IPA. It took the third podium position in the American pale ale category. A bronze medal brought from Good Beer completed Książęce IPA’s award collection, which has been recently expanded by a silver medal received at this year’s Chmielaki.

– Książęce speciality collection is a truly medal collection. Out of 15 distinctions received by Kompania Piwowarska’s beers across all the editions of the Good Beer competition, 13 were awarded to different variants of Książęce. We could not be any prouder, especially since this year we have been fighting for the appreciation of an international panel of judges. The bar we set very high. Two distinctions provide double joy – says Leszek Popiołek, brewer from Tyskie Browary Książęce.

The third medal won by Kompania Piwowarska – and the second bronze one – went to Lech Pils, evaluated by the jury in the light lager category. – Gaining appreciation in a category with such a strong competition as this one is a real feat. In the spirit of our latest campaign, we could say it was “a great feat”. The beer form the Wielkopolska (Greater Poland) region returns from the competition with a medal, which confirms that we are the masters of brewing – comments Jacek Grabarczyk, Lech Pils Brand Manager.

The award giving ceremony took place during the Polish Brewing Congress in Wroclaw on October 15-17. This year’s Good Beer constituted the sixth edition of the competition, while between 2013 and 2015 it was organized under the name Golden Beer Poland. It is the most important professional competition for producers and distributors offering commercial beer on the Polish market.
