The idea of the run lending luster to the celebrations of 390 years of Tyskie Browary Książęce originated among its employees and immediately attracted many supporters. A total of 56 people representing nearly all Brewery departments enrolled for the run. Between the 7th and 9th of June they will run a total of 390 km within the planned time of 39 hours. Some runners selected a distance of 5 km, while others decided to run 10 km.
– We have many active runners at the Brewery, so the idea gained a lot of traction. However, as 390 km is quite a long distance and a challenge even for the toughest ultramarathon runners, we decided to organize it in the form of a relay race on site of the brewery. – says Dariusz Garnowski, Tyskie Browary Książęce director, and one of the originators of the run. – This allows us to combine what we love doing in private time with commemorating the place, whose history makes us so proud. – he adds.
The course of the run, forming a 1 km long loop, leads through the most beautiful fragments of the old parts of the Brewery. On the one hand, runners will be able to admire the beautiful surroundings, and on the other, they will be able to pass by historic buildings, such as the cooperage, tar plant, old infirmary, villa of the former director of the brewery, fire station, or stable.
– When I heard that to celebrate 390 years of the Brewery there is a plan to run a relay race around the Brewery I knew I had to take part in it. – comments Piotr Noras, head of the Technical Department at Tyskie Browary Książęce, an avid runner, working at the brewery for over 10 years. – My start is planned for 2 a.m. A night run, in the quiet, within the historical walls of the brewery that has been brewing beer for four centuries will not only be a sporting event for me, but also a spiritual experience. – he summarizes.
The jubilee run starts on 7 June at 8 p.m. and the last runner, who will be the Brewery Director himself, should come to the finishing line at around 11 a.m. All participants will receive commemorative medals and a group photo which will definitely be included in the Brewery chronicles.
Tyskie Browary Książęce is something more than just a place where one learns about Tyskie beer, called the “Gold of Tychy”. It is also one of the most modern breweries in Europe. But before all, it is a community of people who share a passion for brewing, and, as employees prove, many other passions too.
Being the pearl of Silesian architecture, Tyskie Browary Książęce is also a tourist attraction often visited by them. This unique place is worth visiting in person, to see with one’s own eyes how beer is brewed there, and to switch to first name terms with TYskie and four centuries of brewing passion.
